This incense tray focuses on how the ashes of an incense stick is collected on the tray rather than how the sticks are held from the incense tray like most other designs. Using an image of Kiwa stacked, I made a pattern of the tray surface in order to collect ash of incense abstractly every different time. It can show that the ashes we tend to throw away can become the art on this tray.
Using sand aluminum cast, it created a rough surface to mimic the Kiwa texture. Sand aluminum casting does not require a mold to make the product. By using sand as a poultry mold, the surface of the product cast from aluminum is expressed as rough as the surface of sand. And using Shot blast as the surface treatment, the surface was made similar to that of Kiwa.
